Modeling of carbon pellets disruption mitigation in an NSTX-U plasma

Single carbon pellet disruption mitigation simulations using M3D-C1 were conducted in an NSTX-U-like plasma to support the electromagnetic injection concept (EPI). A ablation model has been implemented and tested with available data. 2D order estimate amount of needed quench plasma, finding that content a $1\,$mm radius vitreous (~ 3.2x10E20 atoms) would be enough if it is entirely ablated. 3D performed, scanning over velocity parallel thermal conductivity, as well different directions concepts (solid pellets shell pellets). The sensitivity other related quantities these parameters evaluated. 1 mm solid only partially ablates at velocities 300 m/s or higher, thus being unable fully plasma. To further enhance ablation, approximations array also explored. field line stochastization plays important role both quenching center heat flux losses, lowering mitigate when compared case. This study constitutes step forward `predict-first' for NSTX-U devices, such ITER.
